Daftar 44 Obat Pholcodine yang Ditarik Peredarannya di Australia

KOMPAS.com - Otoritas pemerintah Australia menarik kembali 44 produk obat yang mengandung pholcodine dari peredaran.

Pencabutan izin edar dan penarikan dari peredaran sirop obat batuk yang mengandung pholcodine dilakukan oleh Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) yang dipublikasikan pada 28 Februari 2023.

Penarikan obat tersebut paling lambat dilakukan pada 8 Maret 2023.

Apa itu obat pholcodine?

Mengutip European Medicines Agency (EMA), pholcodine adalah obat golongan opioid/narkotika, yang bisa digunakan untuk obat batuk kering (tidak berdahak) pada orang dewasa maupun anak.

Obat opioid ini bekerja langsung di otak untuk menekan refleks batuk dengan mengurangi sinyal saraf.

Kebanyak pholcodine tersedia dalam bentuk obat batuk sirop dan pelega tenggorokan yang ditujukan untuk mengobati batuk kering.

Namun, obat ini juga dapat ditemukan pada produk yang mengobati gejala pilek dan flu secara lebih luas.

Pholcodine di Eropa telah digunakan sebagai obat batuk suppressant (antitusif) sejak 1950-an, baik sebagai resep dokter maupun obat yang dijual bebas.

Mengutip TGA, obat yang mengandung pholcodine ditarik dari peredaran karena ditemukan peningkatan risiko reaksi anafilaksis.

Reaksi anafilaksis adalah reaksi alergi yang tiba-tiba, parah, dan mengancam jiwa.

Efek samping obat ini terjadi karena adanya interaksi obat pholcodine dengan obat-obatan tertentu yang digunakan sebagai pelemas otot selama anestesi umum (neuromuscular blocking agents).
